An example of a hinge joint is between the phalanges of the fingers and toes. A hinge joint is a type of synovial joint that includes the ankle, elbow, and knee joints. Hinge joints are formed between two or more bones where is permit to the bones to motion only in one plane (along one axis) to flex or extend.
