The Mendel unit factor are today known as gene which often come in two and are known as alleles. A gene is a segment of DNA that direct the development of inherited traits while Alleles are specific of a gene. According to Mendel for each characteristic one trait would show dominance over the other. Example in peas alleles are responsible for specific seed color
