Solution A is a 0.5M glucose solution while solution B is a 0.25M fructose solution. Both are separated by a semi-permeable membrane that prevents fructose and glucose from crossing while allowing water to cross. What will happen to the solutions?

a. Water will move from side A to side B

b. Water will move from side B to side A

c. Fructose and glucose will move to opposite sides

    Answer: Option B

    Explanation:

The solution A having 0.5M glucose is more concentrated as compared to solution B that is containing) 0.25M fructose.

The solvent is more in the solution B as compared to solution A. Hence according to osmosis the solvent will move from B to A.

This is because Solution B is having more solvent and less solute and solution A is having less solvent as compared to the prior one.

Hence, the solution will move from B to solution A.
