Over time, the tree bark darkens and the black moths become camouflaged. Eventually only 4% show the recessive phenotype, gray.     where the total is always 100% also represented as 1.

    First the Black moths are which are dominant, and in our above equation at 40 %The dominant homozygous is represented by p which =.40

    But eventually q the recessive homozygous is 4% which is =.04

    with this information we then find the final percentage of P

    which is p=1.00-.04=.96

    p=.96 since q=.04 in the final population.
