Thirty-six colonies grew in nutrient agar from 0.1 ml of undiluted sample in a standard plate count. How many viable and culturable cells were in the original sample?

    The sample should obviously be taken from a 10ml source. And since 36 cells grew from a 0.1ml of the sample. Therefore, the cells in the original sample is:

    36*10/0.1

    =3600 cfu
