Mutation at this locus changes one allele to the other (i. e. it does not create a new allele). If the rate of mutation from allele 1 to allele 2 is 0.00005 and the rate of mutation from allele 2 to allele 1 is 0.01, what is the equilibrium frequency of allele 2 (Give your answer to 5 decimal places) ?

    0.00498

    Explanation:

    The equilibrium frequency can be calculated by the formula as follows:

    qe = u / (u + v)

    Here, qe is equilibrium frequency, u = 0.00005 = the forward mutation rate and v is the backward mutation rate = 0.01.

    qe = 0.00005 / (0.00005 + 0.01) =

    qe = 0.00498.

    Thus, the answer is 0.00498.
