What is the main factor that moves most of the water within xylem vessels toward the top of a tree?

    Xylem tissue is composed of vessel cells and tracheids. Vessel cells lack end walls and join to form long tubes. Tracheids are slender cells with over lapping ends. This structure enables it to give support to the tree as well as moves water to aerial parts.
