What have we learned from fossil evidence about evolution?

It is an abrupt change.

The process is observable.

It takes place during a lifetime.

The best organism is always selected.

    I belive the answer is The best organism is always selected.

    The process of evolution will need a long time to show a changes. It should not only a lifetime of the organism, but much longer. The long period cause the process hard to observe. The fossil will show that organism that getting a good trait will survive natural selection, while organism with bad trait will be eliminated.
