    In this example lithium hydroxide is an Arrhenius base:

    LiOH (aq) → Li⁺ (aq) + OH⁻ (aq).

    An Arrhenius acid is a substance that dissociates in water to form hydrogen ions or protons (H⁺).

    For example hydrochloric acid: HCl (aq) → H ⁺ (aq) + Cl⁻ (aq).
