Problem page liquid hexane reacts with gaseous oxygen gas to produce gaseous carbon dioxide and gaseous water. what is the theoretical yield of water formed from the reaction of of hexane and of oxygen gas?

    C6H8 + 8O2 = = = > 6CO2 + 4H2O ... balanced equation

    moles hexane = 54.3 g x 1 mol/80 g = 0.679 moles

    moles O2 = 78.5 g x 1 mol/32 g = 2.45 moles

    Limiting reactant is Oxygen (O2) since need 8 x as much as C6H8

    Theoretical yield of CO2 = 2.45 mole O2 x 6 mole CO2/8mole O2 = 1.84 moles CO2

    1.84 moles CO2 x 44 g/mol = 80.9 g (answer to 3 sig figs)
