A cube of iron (cp = 0.450 j/g•°c) with a mass of 55.8 g is heated from 25.0°c to 49.0°c. how much heat is required for this process? rounded to three significant figures.

    The formula of the heat needed to rise the temperature of a substance is:

    Heat = m*Cp*ΔT

    Where m is the mass = 55.8 g

    Cp is the specifif heat of the iron = 0.450 j / g°C

    ΔT is the raise of the temperature = 49.0°C - 25.0 °C = 24.0°C

    => heat = 55.8 g * 0.450 j/g°C * 24.0 °C = 602.6 j = 603 j

    Answer: 603 j
