    In order to incorporate the reverse reaction, the enthalpy must be multiplied by one. This makes sense because if a reaction releases 100 J of energy, the enthalpy is - 100 J. In order to do the reverse reaction, the products will require 100 J of energy, so the enthalpy becomes + 100 J.
