    According to the theory of, acids are those substances that dissolved in water are divided generating H + together with an anion. A base, on the contrary, according to this theory, is a substance that releases OH - ions in aqueous solution.

    Arrhenius theory has great limitations, because the acid or basic behavior is verified only in aqueous solution. In addition, the concept of acid is limited to chemical species that contain hydrogen (H+) and that of base to species that contain hydroxide ions (OH-).

    2 KOH (aq) + H₂SO₄ (aq) → K₂SO₄ (aq) + 2 H₂O (l)

    CH₃NH₂ (g) + HBr (g) → CH₃NH₃Br (s)

    Taking into account the aforementioned, the KOH potassium hydroxide reacts as a base due to the presence of the OH - hydroxide ion; and the compounds H₂SO₄ and HBr will act as acid due to the presence of hydrogen.
