The dishes have different surface areas

    Explanation:

Let us call the dish in which evaporation was complete within 2.8 days dish A

Let us call the dish in which evaporation was complete within 8.3 days dish B

It is well known that the rate of evaporation of a liquid depend on temperature, surface area and humidity. If the temperature and humidity at which the dishes are maintained are the same as suggested by the question, then the difference in rate of evaporation must result from difference in surface area of the dishes.

The greater the surface area, the higher the rate of evaporation and the lesser the time taken for evaporation to be completed. Hence dish A has a greater surface area than dish B. Hence the observation that the liquid in dish A evaporated faster than the liquid in dish B.
