Suppose we have a 12.2litre sample containing 0.50M of oxygen at 25°c. If all of this oxygen (o2) is converted to ozone at the same temperature and pressure. What will be the volume of ozone?

    Molarity of oxygen = 0.50 M

    Volume = 12.2 L

    Volume of ozone = ?

    Solution:

    Number of moles of oxygen = molarity * volume

    Number of moles = 0.50 M * 12.2 L

    Number of moles = 6.1 mol

    Chemical equation:

    3O₂ → 2O₃

    Moler ratio:

    O₂ : O₃

    3 : 2

    6.1 : 2/3*6.1 = 4.1 mol

    According to Avogadro law:

    V1/n1 = V2/n2

    V2 = V1n2/n1

    V2 = 12.2 L * 4.1 mol / 6.1 mol

    V2 = 50.02 L. mol / 6.1 mol

    V2 = 8.2 L
