An aqueous solution is 36% by mass silver nitrate, AgNO3, and has a density of 1.41 g/mL. What is the molality of silver nitrate in the solution?

    = 170 g/mol

    Number of moles of AgNO3 = mass/molar mass

    = 360/170

    = 2.118 moles

    A 1000 g solution is made of (360 g AgNO3 + 640 g water).

    Mass of water = 640 g

    g to kg = 0.64 kg

    molality = moles/kg solvent.

    = 2.118/0.640

    = 3.31 mol/kg
