Why does the alcohol level in the thermometer rises or falls when you place it in water?

    If you place teh thermometer in warmer fluid the alcohol level will rise because of the constant motion and / or vibration of molecules ... the highe the temp the more room ther is for molecules to spread out that is why it rises.
