    The elements in each group have the same number of electrons in the outer orbital

    The columns each one in the periodic table is called groups. The elements in each group contains the same number of electrons in the outer orbital.

    for example, every element in the first column has one electron in its outer shell. In the second column, two electrons in outer shell.
