Given the following equation:

2F2 + 2H2O = 4HF + O2

What mass of fluorine is needed to completely react with 3.6 grams of water?

Molar mass of F2 = 38.00 g/mol

    Answer: 7.6g of Fluorine

    Explanation:

    Looking at the equation for the reaction.

    2F2 + 2H2O = 4HF + O2

    Which means;

    36.04g of Water (H2O) reacts with 76g of Fluorine (F)

    1g of H2O would react with 76g / 36.04g of F

    3.6 g of water is needed to react with; (76 / 36.04 x 3.6) = 7.59 approx 7.6g of Fluorine.
