In the following equation: FeCl3 + O2 = Fe2O3 + Cl2, what is the limiting reactant if 4 moles of FeCl3 react with 4 moles of O2?

    Balance the eq'tn first

    4 FeCl3 + 3 O2 = 2 Fe2O3 + 6 Cl2

    Divide the moles to their coefficient

    FeCl3: 4moles/4 = 1

    O2: 4moles/3 = 1.33333333 ...

    Smallest one is the limiting reagent = FeCl3
