It tells us that even though something is for a great cause people were so caught up in thehumor side of it that it became popular and it was a chain affect. It was something simple that did something amazing and saved many whales.

It was a campaign to stop Japan from killing whales and Greenpeace adopted a whale andwas voting on the name. Reddit exploded and everybody loved the name Mister SplashyPants so everybody was voting for that and thumbing it up. It was a success and Japan ended up cancelled their whaling expedition.
