The relation between colonialism and imperialism in the play has to do with the historical contex, which was the recent war by which England had colonized American nations.

The Tempest analyzes the political situation between England and Virginia, or the colonozation of America by the Europeans

The play takes place in an island were Prospero lives with his daugther Miranda. Prospero has slaves that work for him. The figure of the slaves and the master. The figure of the slave as in a position of being conquered and dominated, it shows the aspects of colonization.

Caliban is Prospero's slave. The name Caliban suggests Shakespear refers to the people from the new world. This is another reference that makes a reference to the colonization process.
