On 17th May 1954, The U. S Supreme Court had issues its historic order to desegregate all segregated schools. After the decision, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) started its efforts to register colored students in previously segregated schools of the Southern United States. Little Rock Central High School was such of many schools. NAACP selected nine black students to be enrolled in this school based on their academic performance. The students were initially barred entrance into the school. But later by the executive orders of President Dwight D. Eisenhower and under the protection of U. S. Army paratroopers, the students were allowed to enter, enroll and study in the school. The nine students of this group are known the Little Rock Nine.
