The uncle wouldn't have been happier if he left Cuba with the family because he had a strong bond with the community he grew in. His act in staying back at Cuba revealed the loyalty he has to his community. One who has such strong bond with his community like uncle Chicho will not really find a happier place to stay and find fulfillment.
