Thomas Jefferson was a firm believer in manifest destiny and westward expansion, so he believed that native Americans should be pushed further beyond the Mississippi River to make room for white Americans. However his original plan was to just convince natives to give up their cultures, religions, and lifestyles in favor of western culture, Christianity, and a simple farming lifestyle.
