When citing a source within your paper, the ending punctuation should?

    I'm going to assume what exactly this question is asking, so ... the ending punctuation should follow the parenthetical citation, if you have a citation in parentheses. for example:

    John told the man, "that was my favorite blanket" (Smith 98).

    the punctuation follows the parentheses!
