What is the purpose of this passage from President Lincoln's Second Inaugural Address

to explain why the cause of conflict was resolved before the war ended

Lincoln demonstrates that the main motivation for war was the economic model adopted in the different regions of the Union. When the models gained similar contours, even so, that did not serve to end the conflict. Hugs!
