There are four factors that affect how one experiences death and dying. These factors are:

    1. Age - Since people generally accept that dying comes with old age, it is more difficult for younger people to understand.

    2. Culture - Some cultures glorify death and dying and regard it as holy, or as an end to a journey. Belonging in cultures with these beliefs may make the idea of death and dying easier to accept for some individuals.

    3. Religion - Religious beliefs have a big impact on one's idea of death and the afterlife. Some religions believe in a new life after death; others believe in rebirth after death.

    5. Previous Experiences with Death - How one views death and dying may tell of their experiences with it. One who has had little experiences with death and dying may feel fearful of the uncertainty that comes with death while those who have had negative experiences with death may feel anxious and scared.
