It is composed of two or more independent clauses which are incorrectly presented as one sentence. This mode of writing confuses the readers. Thus, there is the need of correct punctuation to deliver the correct message intended for the reader.

A run-on sentence can either be a Fused sentence or a comma splice. Fused sentence is composed of two clauses without punctuation mark. A comma splice is composed of two clauses which are separated by a comma.

Run-on sentences can be fixed to properly communicate the intended message to the reader. These sentences can be fixed by using the correct punctuation mark. These marks can be period, semicolons, commas plus coordinating conjunctions. Making one of the independent clause become a subordinate or dependent to the other clause is used to fix run-on sentences; using the terms "while" or "when".
