Interpret the meaning of the simile, "They [books on investments and securities] stood like new money from the mint."

    The book is about collecting money which is legal but what I can say is that they have not been touched and they are in mint condition. The simile symbolizes new wealth or money in a way that they are in mint condition. As a whole, it highlights the central theme of being social stratification.
