Were early colonists loyal to England and did they value their rights as English subjects?

    It depended on the experience of the colonist. There were two different colonist types: Tories were loyal to the king before and during the war. Patriots on the other hand either felt bitterly towards the government, wanted their freedom, or did not support England as their counterparts.
