Hy was the whiskey rebellion a significant event in the early republic?

well, it happened almost immediately after the Revolution ... We had just fought to free ourselves from taxation w/out representation, and then the new American gvmt turns around and starts taxing a product (alcohol) that many people used as currency. The people felt this was very wrong as they had no say in it and were willing to fight for their rights again.
