Why do you think sufragists worked so hard to gain voting rights for women?

    Probably because they thought that it was unfair to allow men to vote for everyone in the population. For example, in this time period, a man would have to vote due to it being his civic duty, but the women, which theoretically would have made up half of America, would have no say.

    Suffragists worked so hard to gain voting rights for women, because some people thought women lacked physical and mental strength to survive without men. As a result, The Seneca Falls Convention was held and the Declaration Of Sentiments was written.

    Susan B. Anthony was arrested while trying to vote in New York.

    In 1860, New York finally gave married women ownership of their wages.
