What does the direct rule and indirect rule have in common

They both changed African cultures. The indirect rule introduced the British legal system which made Africans more British and the direct rule destroyed local African cultures.

Both rules were successful in some areas, but less successful in others. For example, the indirect rule was successful in Nigeria but a problem in Kenya. The direct rule was successful for the French but far less for other European nations.

They both had a religious goal - the indirect rule brought Protestant Christianity and educated young in the new faith. The direct rule allowed local religions but pushed Catholicism as being more European.

Making money was the economic goal in both rules, although the indirect rule let independent companies make profits and in the direct rule most businesses had direct ties to the government.
