Thomas Jefferson borrowed many things from John Locke while writing the Declaration of Independence. One of the more famous of these things was the infamous phrase, "life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness," which John Locke had stated in a political philosophy work of writing, but is now known for being in the Declaration of Independence. Locke also created the idea of overthrowing the government if it did not meet the peoples needs, which Jefferson liked and later used for the Declaration.
