The Constitution has three main functions. First it creates a national government consisting of a legislative, an executive, and a judicial branch, with a system of checks and balances among the three branches. Second, it divides power between the federal government and the states.

1. Separation of Powers: Executive power, legislative power and judicial powers are the 3 branches of the US Federal Government.

2. Separation of Federal and State Power: The US constitution divides the governmental power between National and State government and this division of authority is known as federalism. The federal government possesses much power than state but also restricted in terms of power by the constitution. Under the supremacy clause of the Constitution, federal law is supreme over state law. State or local laws that conflict with the constitution or federal statutory laws are premeditated.

3. Personal Liberty protection: This function of the US constitution is work as security to its citizens.

4. Permanent Protections of a constitution: This function is similar to the above function as it protects the citizens from the dictatorial power of the government. It gives safety to the minorities from easily taking their rights and etc.
