When a law is out of constitution's bounds it is declared unconstitutional.

Explanation:

The Supreme court had ruled that the law that was the New Deal of FDR was not in terms with the constitution of the nation and thus was declared to be, unconstitutional.

This was something that had been worked around later and the deal was passed but not without some significant changes that happened due to the insistence of the court.

This is something that the supreme court can and has influenced on the government.

The court in itself is responsible for the safeguard of the constitution.
