    Explanation:

The scope trial otherwise known as the Monkey trial refers to the case which stemmed from the conflict between religion and science regarding the origin of man. While religion/theology taught that man was created by God, science taught that man originated from apes according to Charles Darwin's theory of evolution. During the 1920s, the theory of evolution was prohibited from being taught in public schools because it conflicted with the biblical teaching of the origin of man. However, in 1925 a Tennessee public school science teacher by the name John Scopes went ahead to teach the theory of evolution in a public school in Tennessee, this led to his prosecution and subsequent conviction widely referred to as the Scopes Trial or Monkey Trial. The case drew immense national publicity in the United States, and evoked the heated debate as to whether or not modern science should be taught in schools, and also challenged the biblical teaching on the origin of man.
