The right answer is: B) Were subject ( ...) student papers. This case was a landmark decision by the Supreme court of the United States that held that public school curricular student newspapers that had not been established as forum for student expression are subject for a lower level of First Amendment protection than independent student expression or newspapers established (by policy or practice) as forums for student expression.

    D is the answer.

Explanation: When Journalist students from Hazel wood east high decided to petition their freedom of speech in an article they had published in their school Journalism paper, the school had felt that some of the articles n the paper were inappropriate and therefore they decided to have some of those articles omitted without telling the students. This according to the students was a violation of their constitutional right according to the first amendment. They took it to court and won, but then the school appealed and the US Court of appeals reversed the ruling which now gave the school mandate and jurisdiction to edited the school sponsored paper by the student journalist since it was for school purposes and not mainly the public.
