To what extent were the Jacksonian Democrats guardians of political democracy and the United States constitution?

Jacksonian Democrats viewed themselves as the guardians of the United States constitution, political democracy, individual liberty, and equality of economic opportunity, but in truth, their record is an inconsistent one. A main issue of the Jacksonian Era was the call for equal economic opportunity.
