    The Black codes were introduced to compel the black Africans to work in a labor economy based on low wages

    Explanation:

    In the first two years after the Civil War, white-dominated southern legislatures passed Black Codes as slave codes. The term Black Codes was given by "negro leaders and the Republican organs". North Carolina restricted slaves from leaving their plantation and African Americans were now allowed to own property. People of high influence wanted to return blacks, in effect, to their prewar status as slavery.
