What is the preamble and what is its purpose

the preamble if the introduction of the Declaration of Independence and explains to the reader about the natural rights of all people, states the reasons for the document, and includes this famous quote, "We hold these truths to be self evident that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
