The Landmark Documents include the carta magna, the petition of rights and the English bill of rights. At the beginning, these documents intended to end the absolut power of monarchies and constituted the origin of many rights that US citizens enjoy nowadays.

The carta magna gave protection to people exposed to the arbitrary actions of kings. It contained basic rights such as trial or jury, property, etc.

The petition of rights also limited the kings power. According to this document, the king had to follow the laws of land to be able to imprison people, he could not activate martial law in peace times, and he needed the approval of the Parliament if he wanted to raise taxes.

Finally, the English bill of rights was enacted after the revolution and ended king's power forever. The king did not have legislative power anymore, which turned to be in the hands of the Parliament, which started to be freely elected.
