The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo was signed at the end of the Mexican-American War by the governments of Mexico and the United States on February 2, 1848, and was ratified on May 30, 1848. The treaty established that Mexico would cede more than half of its territory, which comprises all of what today are the states of California, Nevada, Utah, New Mexico, Texas, parts of Arizona, Colorado, Wyoming, Kansas and Oklahoma. In addition, Mexico would relinquish all claims on Texas and the international border would be established on the Rio Grande. As compensation, the United States would pay $ 15 million for damages to Mexican territory during the war.
