This law stated that all territories north of the 36'30 line would be considered free territories while any territory below the 36'30 line would be considered territories where slavery was allowed. Along with this, the Missouri Compromise allowed Missouri to join the Union as a slave state and allowed Maine to enter the US as a free state.
