    With the expansion of ancient empires like Rome and the Incas there was the necessity of flowing goods, military, people and food, so that transportation was faster and safer. For the same reasons, the Inca Empire extended from the north of nowadays Ecuador down to Chile, so in order to keep the Empire united there was the need of building the network of roads.
