In the decades after the Civil War, how did the railroads hurt farmers financially?

    It hurt the farmers by the train might be long then it blocks the sunlight and what if the farmer wanted to plant a tree everyone knows that a tree takes up a lot of soil and a train tracks will keep the tree from growing then it dies.
