Why did chinese youth get swept up in the cultural revolution?

"The Cultural Revolution", which had an impact on China from 1965 to 1968, is the name given to Mao’s attempt to promulgate his beliefs in China. Mao Zedong was a Chinese Communist revolutionary and the founding father of the People’s Republic of China. He had a Marxist-Leninist theory, military strategies, and political policies which were known as the Mao Zedong Thought. Mao was concerned about the attributes of post 1959 China. He remarked that the revolution had replaced the old nobility with anew one and feared that these people taking in a leading role would weaken Mao’s power within the party and country. Mao believed that with the start of the Cultural Revolution, it would unsettle the ruling class and get China to a more equal state of being.
