The era of piracy in the Caribbean began in the 1500s and died out in the 1830s after the navies of the nations of Western Europe and North America with colonies in the Caribbean began combating pirates. The period during which pirates were most successful was from the 1660s to 1730s.

Is this a joke after the movie? If not, my guess would be to find more substantial homes, obviously, the Caribbean has plenty of shallow, warm waters, plenty of fish and other sea life for food provision, as well as sandy beaches holding the possibility of treasure. Perhaps they went to plummet for gold, or steal from others. I'm not exactly certain.
