Why was it unusual that african americans supported fdr?

    It surprising that African Americans upheld Franklin D Roosevelt since when FDR was president African Americans couldn't vote. Jim Crow laws were in full impact and they were kept from voting. It won't be until 1965 with the social equality laws that they could vote.
